I'm happy to kick things off with
my
Red Dutch Doors Quilt.
Carol of Just Let Me Quilt invited bloggers to make a project with red in it.
That was it, just make something with red in it.
Thank you, Carol, for inviting me to join this super fun blog hop!
Sometimes the simplest rules can cause me such dilemmas.
There are so many things I think of when I think of a way to use "red".
My Chiefs are red...
BUT, I know, I know, I've been making and chatting them up for a long time.
Even I am running out of ideas for supporting "my" Chiefs.
One of my favorite dolls from my childhood needs a little revamping and a redo...
but Little Red Riding Hood has waited this long and I just couldn't come up with a plan for her.
So,
one of my goals is to make all 30 quilt blocks from
my
into 30 individual quilts.
I decided on the Dutch Door quilt block pattern - block #4.

I used stash fabrics in red and my other favorite color, teal, to make a super fun and modern quilt.
(Teal is neutral with red, right?)
Rotate every other block in a 4 x 5 block grid (20 blocks)
and
add a 1" border for a 42" x 52" throw.
I quilted with straight lines with Aurifil 40wt 3ply long arm thread in Red.
I love how the straight lines and the red thread really just blend into the quilt
but it gives great texture.
I made extra blocks and added them to the backing so there would be
Red Dutch Doors on the back of the quilt, too.
I love the modern look of this quilt and all the fabrics used were from my stash.
That's like a free quilt, right?

Your 30 Quilt Blocks in 30 days is one of my favorites of the things you have done. I loved it and I love this Red Dutch Doors quilt. It is beautiful! Snap bags are so fun to make and that doll is adorable. I had to laugh when you said that even "the simplest rules can cause me such dilemmas" because I felt the same when with this challenge. My brain went on overload thinking of all the red things I could make, but with moving things happening I had to calm my brain down. LOL Thanks for leading the way with red, red, red! xo

I love the simplicity of your 'dutch doors' quilt - how perfect the red fabric. Now...seems that neutrals change almost as much as I change my mind though aqua doesn't exactly fit 'neutral' to me!!
The Dutch Doors makes such a beautiful modern quilt. I think teal is the absolute neutral. The red and teal combination is perfectly bright and cheery! Thanks for sharing the block pattern 😄 Carol

I;ve played with your 30 blocks and love how you can rotate them for different looks. I love this teal and red and straight line quilting with a color thread pitter/patters my heart.

I've been meaning to tell you about a gentleman in the nursing home where my husband's sister was, before she passed away in July, that played for the Chiefs in the first and the 4th Super Bowl! I think he's in his 90's now, but he stayed up for the whole game. They really made a big deal over him that week! His name is Bert Coan.
I do love the 3d effect! It is almost like red bits floating on water that you can see into.

Love your quilt! Modern pattern using vintage colors. Teal and red were the color of our kitchen when I was a kid and oh so popular back then. Makes me feel nostalgic. Love that easy pattern and the red thread in your quilting just makes it pop!
