Happy Hexies - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

Last week when I finished Happy Hippos for the H2H Charity Quilt Challenge
I mentioned this quilt.
Happy Hexies is a FINISH!!
On time to donate, too!

These hexie blocks have been laying around for almost a year.
I made 2 of them and the others came from some of the ladies in my Modern Block Party Group.

My month was towards the end of the group's year and I didn't receive all of the blocks for a full quilt, so I made this throw to donate to Happy Chemo.
Happy Chemo is an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.

I had a lot of help with the quilt, including the photography....

The binding is pieced from all the leftover fabrics.

I used this quilt to practice some of the pre-loaded quilt patterns on the Handi Quilter.
I can't believe how fun it is.  I have a lot to learn, but it's starting to be a little easier.

Here is a picture of the back to show a little more of the quilting.

Happy Hexies is a 48" x 60" throw and is labeled and ready to ship.

Hope they like it.

Friday finishes on Saturday. Always a day behind.....

Here come the holidays and I'm already running.
BUT,
I have my November blocks complete for the
Modern Block Party.

(What?  before the end of the month?)

Ms. November requested blocks to make the quilt
"Second Wind"

These were very simple blocks, but sometimes those are the things that get wonky on me.
LOL

The bright and fun fabrics she chose are Kate Spain's Day Dream.

Ms. November mentioned something about creating a group in the future to make
little pink houses
so....

Why wait for the future?
I created a little pink house as a surprise.

One for her and of course one for me.
9 1/2" x 12 1/2"

The last one is mine because the bottom roof is a touch wonky.
It was the first pattern I drew and the blasted triangle just isn't right.
I like the squared up roof a little better.

Picket fences and little pink houses
of course, as usual, I want a quilt of them...

Next week
begins.

Projects that can be made within a couple hours or in an evening.
Perfect for the season.
Gifts you can make in a jiffy.

I have been busy getting ready...

My day is
Wednesday, November 19th.

Marlene is cheering this one on
and she has already coordinated a gift exchange among the bloggers in the hop.

You will see what we have created for each other, too!

90 Degrees in October?

90 degrees in October?

Why yes it is.

That's why we are smiling.

That and we took a ride in the Viking this afternoon.

And watched the sun go down.
It was just beautiful.

I finished a couple of blocks for October in my Modern Block Party.

The queen of October is using these blocks to make a Patchwork Chevron Quilt.

Why is it, that every month I make these blocks I want to make the quilt?

These girls have great taste in pattern and colors.

The weatherman is saying this warm weather is going away.....
How sad.
I'll miss you warm weather.
Until we meet again.

P.S.  Don't forget to check out the blog hop going on over at Sew We Quilt.

Wicked Wendy has the complete schedule HERE for the Black Cat Crossing Blog Hop.

Friday Finish - Blocks and Bows

There hasn't been a lot of sewing time this week, but I do have a little to share.

I finished the blocks for the September queen of my modern quilting bee.
I love it when the fabric comes already cut and all I have to do is sew it together.
Thanks, Max.

The  pattern for the blocks is from this tutorial at SewHappyGeek.

Call me a worker bee.

If you've been following along, you know that we have a wedding coming up.
Family will be arriving 3 weeks from today for my daughter's wedding.

Busy bee
is an understatement at this point, but we are still having fun.

I finished a million 20 bows for candelabras and pews.

Burlap ribbon is quite a bit heavier than any ribbon I've worked with, but with a million a few tries, they are finished.

I used a couple of You tube videos as inspiration:

but

Stay tuned, there is a lot going on here in the sticks...

My day in the

is Monday and I will reveal my
rush hour.

Carol is the cheerleader for the hop and she has the full schedule
at her blog, Just Let Me Quilt.

Have a productive and beautiful weekend,

A Modern Block Party

My schedule never allows time to attend my local quilt guild meetings
and
I am so grateful for my online quilting community.

We are not limited to our small communities for friendships and coming together to share our crafts.

Hello world!

I was recently invited to join a group of 12 people for 1 year for a modern quilting bee.
The idea is to duplicate the modern quilting bee described in the book, "Block Party" by Alissa Carlton and Kristen Lejnieks.
There are some great modern ideas and inspiration for quilting and coming together to share in the book.

What a great road trip this would make.  This shows the 12 locations of our bee members.
I'm D, for you inquiring minds.

This is our first month and I have finished my 2 blocks for the Queen of August.

I just love her fabrics and the pattern was so fun to do.
It's a string block with a paper pieced method.

I have so much more to share, but I have a Dodge City Days hangover right now. lol
(no, not an alcohol one, just too much fun)
silly readers...

I'm sorry if you have been missing me...hugs

PS.  Connecting Threads is having a $1000.00 gift card giveaway.
Update:  Giveaway is over
