Improv in Blue - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

I call this quilt
 Improv in Blue
and it will be a hug for someone in need.

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

This is my 5th year to participate and I am just under the deadline.
Although I really wanted to make 2 quilts this year, I'm feeling great about finishing one.

I have accumulated a lot of scraps over the last year and decided to use up as much as I could for this quilt.

I have had more blue scraps of every size and shape than any other colors so this was the obvious choice to start with.  Truth is, I have enough for 5 quilts just like this.  lol
I may have a scrap problem.
I keep all shapes and sizes.
But then again, is it a problem when you can use improvisational piecing to make a beauty of a quilt out of scraps that may have been tossed?

Improvisational piecing (making your own fabric) is so relaxing.
All you do is sew pieces together, cut them into straight lines, sew more pieces together, sew more pieces together, cut them into some size of square and make a quilt.
It's so fun!

Some may argue that there are biased edges (oh my).
Fix that by framing the blocks with scrap strips and that bias worry is gone.
(Starch that fabric and a lot of those worries are gone anyway...)

I added an appliqued bird or four on the quilt for that little something special.
To applique,
I ONLY use my favorite fabric iron on adhesive by Therm O Web,
 HeatnBond® Lite.

I quilted a stipple stitch and added a pieced binding (more of that scrap box fabric).
I like to add my label to the backing fabric before it's quilted.

Improv in Blue will be donated to

an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.
The quilt is 56" x 63" in size, a little random but a great hugging size.

A random hug sounds nice...

Happy Hexies - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

Last week when I finished Happy Hippos for the H2H Charity Quilt Challenge
I mentioned this quilt.
Happy Hexies is a FINISH!!
On time to donate, too!

These hexie blocks have been laying around for almost a year.
I made 2 of them and the others came from some of the ladies in my Modern Block Party Group.

My month was towards the end of the group's year and I didn't receive all of the blocks for a full quilt, so I made this throw to donate to Happy Chemo.
Happy Chemo is an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.

I had a lot of help with the quilt, including the photography....

The binding is pieced from all the leftover fabrics.

I used this quilt to practice some of the pre-loaded quilt patterns on the Handi Quilter.
I can't believe how fun it is.  I have a lot to learn, but it's starting to be a little easier.

Here is a picture of the back to show a little more of the quilting.

Happy Hexies is a 48" x 60" throw and is labeled and ready to ship.

Hope they like it.

Happy Hippo - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

This is my 4th year to participate and the first year I am finished before the link up deadline.  (:

Although I really wanted to make 2 quilts this year, I'm feelling great about finishing one.

I used 5" charms in Kona Solids (mainly colors from the Sunset collection)
and stash fabric (giraffe print and animals).
I used Missouri Star Quilt Company's
Wonky Star tutorial as my inspiration for the pattern.

This quilt, Happy Hippo, will be donated to
an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.
I made this one for a child.  It's so sad to think of children fighting cancer and I hope this little quilt can comfort and maybe bring a smile.
The quilt is 45" x 45" and is the first quilt I have quilted with my Handi Quilter.

I have another quilt top on the frame for the H2H challenge and another week to finish it so I may have another donation.  I'm using this challenge as an opportunity to play on the long arm or at least practise some of the patterns.

Happy Weekend!
AND
Don't forget about the
$25.00 Fat Quarter Shop Gift Certificate
to be given away on May 31st,

Star Spectrum - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

Hi all!

Time has been getting away from me and I have been absent from here both in writing and reading.
I miss both so much.  I feel out of the loop.

Special occasions require hair stylists to work a little overtime and between proms, graduations, and mother's day, May was quite busy.

I've been working out of town on weekends (tis wedding season)
and I'm afraid my blogging has suffered.  I only have one more wedding this summer and I will be ready for "normal" to return.

In the meanwhile
is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

Star Spectrum
is my contribution for 2015.
(The wheat looks happy this year.  This photo is out in front of our house.)

This reverse rainbow star burst quilt was made from 5" charms I've been cutting for my scrap organization.  I used Kat's tutorial over at diary of a Flutter.Kat as the inspiration for the blocks.
Star Spectrum is 54" x 54"

Because I am so close to the deadline for the finish, free motion quilting in a meandering pattern was the quickest way to go.  I used Auriful thread 50wt #2615.

Star Spectrum will be donated to Happy Chemo, an orgnization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.  Emily of Em's Scrapbag has been collecting quilts for this cause for awhile and has set a goal of providing 1500 quilts to Happy Chemo.  She's already donated more than 600 quilts and the H2H quilt challenge is helping to make here numbers grow.

Happy Chemo has a great blog for Cancer patients
and you can click HERE to check it out.

If you would like to see all the quilts donated during the Hands 2 Help Challenge

Have a great weekend,  It's been raining so much here that I haven't even planted my garden.  Can you believe that?  We had over 10 inches of rain in May (a record).
My garden hopes to be off the porch and in some dirt tomorrow.
This picture was on May 23rd and the plants had been there 3 weeks then.....

This will be the third year I have participated in
Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge
over at
Confessions of a Fabric Addict
and you can join too!

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

Sign ups start today and go until Saturday, March 21st.

The challenge is to use your hands to help others.
Quilts are made and donated to your choice of 3 charities.
All the details are over at Sarah's blog and you should check it out.
There are all kinds of prizes too!

Hope you had a great weekend!

My BFF from high school came for a visit and spent some time here in the sticks.
We really had a fantastic time.

My babies surprised me with an afternoon of fun over the weekend, too.

So I don't have any sewing to show, but I hope to do a little tomorrow.

Petal Plate Party - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge 2014

is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

"Petal Plate Party"
is my second contribution
for 2014.

With a bunch of solid Kona strips in a box,

as my inspiration to sew the quilt top.

Once all the strips were sewn together, it was an odd size.
I cut it in half to make two lap quilts.
This is the second one.

The first one, "Sunshine Travels" was blogged here.
Both quilts are 51" x 63"
Nice cuddle up throws.

I added Dresden to make it more pleasing to me.

(I really hated the way it looked before the green Dresden)

Now it's a bright, happy quilt
sent to put a party in some one's life.

I quilted this one with stipple in the background and zigzag swirl in the Dresden centers.

I am on the last hours of deadline here, but I made my goal of 2 quilts this year.
Now I need to decide which of the 3 charities will receive these.

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

If you would like to see all of the quilts being donated, you can see them
at the Big Reveal.

Have a great weekend,

Sunshine Travels

is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

"Sunshine Travels"
is my first contribution
for 2014.
(I have another top ready to quilt, but the deadline draws near)

With a bunch of solid Kona strips in a box,
I used this Jelly Roll Race Video
as my inspiration to sew the quilt top.

Once all the strips were sewn together, it was an odd size.
I cut it in half to make two lap quilts.
This is the first one.

I added circles to make it more pleasing to me.
(I really hated the way it looked before the bright yellow circles)

Now it's a bright, sunny, and happy quilt
sent to put sunshine in some one's life.

Finished with a quilt label,

The quilting is free motion swirls in the circles and  lines sewn as sun rays.

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

Stay tuned to see if I finish another...lol

Sharing a picture of my photography assistant.
I think I wore her out.

Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge

is once again

in

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

The details of the challenge are HERE.

Quilters have the chance to win prizes as they make quilts for charity.

That is a win, win!

With 3 different charities to choose from, you will be signing up to make a quilt or quilts for any or all of these three charitable causes.

Last year I made

Natural Charm

to donate to Happy Chemo.

Initial sign ups will be Sunday March 16th through Saturday, March 22nd.

Is there anything better than making a quilt for someone in need?

Make it a point to check out Hands 2 Help!

Let's make 2014 the best year for giving.
