Violin Collage - Quilt the Music!

Welcome to Creatin' in the Sticks
and
my day - the final day for the Music Blog Hop.

To all that participated or commented -
Thank you so much!

My head is swimming with all kinds of music
and
stitching ideas I can't wait to try.

But first, it's my day to show my
Violin Collage Quilt.

Dedicated to my daughter.

This was a year ago when she was about ready to have our grandson.
She can play about any instrument, but has a passion for her violin.
I love that I can still go to see her play.

I love to make collage quilts.
To start with a drawing and add fabrics to add shadows and highlights with the fabrics.
In the meantime adding little bits for character.
Here is the violin coming to life...

Close for quilting and a little more detail:

I've used this technique a lot!
I have a brief tutorial using a sugar skull HERE if you want to see more collage ideas.

Please check out the bloggers posting with me today:

Thursday, November 17th

Stitching Sunshine- Island Batik Ambassador Free Theme! - Fragments of my Sunshine

Welcome to Creatin' in the Sticks
and
my day - the final day for the
Stitching Sunshine Blog Hop.

To all that participated or commented -
Thank you so much!

My head is swimming with all kinds of ideas
and I can't wait to get to stitching.

But first, it's my day to show my
"Fragments of my Sunshine" quilt.

I'm combining two challenges into one project this month.

You see, I am an Island Batik Ambassador
2020
and the ambassador challenge this month is
Free Theme!

This is a free month for us to do whatever we like
using
Island Batik fabrics.

Why not make a little sunshine?
I've always wanted to make a mosaic tile project so I used fabric and made a mosaic sun.

I started with a whole lot of Island Batik stash builders (5" strips of fabric bundles).

Next, I used Island Batik Foundation Solid fabric in black for the background
and
drew out my sun.

I handpicked designs on my computer to use for my collage sun and with HEATnBOND® LITE
I created the sun.

I chose one of my favorite Island Batik Foundation Fabrics, Tourmaline to use for the outside of the sun.

There are a lot of little things about my life in this sunshine
so I called it
Fragments of my Sunshine.

Each and every little piece is special.

I quilted it by stitching around each piece with a rainbow of Aurifil 50 wt. cotton threads.

helped to stitch right through all those layers.

The backing is Island Batik Solid, too.
(Sometimes you just have to show the back)

I had so much fun with this 40" x 40" quilt and love the vibrant colors of the fabrics.

We are celebrating Sunshine!

I have been craving a little sunshine in my life.
Something happy and fun.
No more cloudy days and blah.

So, I invited my blogging friends to
stitch something up with the color yellow or with a little sunshine.

Here's today's schedule:

On Angel's Wings - Show Your Wings Blog Hop

Carol said, "Show Your Wings" and let's do a blog hop.
Sooooo...

I put on my angel wings.

Welcome to the Sticks and my stop in the

Thank you, Carol, for a great idea for a blog hop!

It's no secret, I love collage quilting and this hop seemed like the perfect chance to pull out my box of  HeatnBond® Lite backed floral fabrics and make some wings.

I stitched my angel with Aurifil thread in a triple stitch on my machine
then I appliqued my wings.

To hold down all those edges, I micro stippled the wings.
Collage quilting is one of my favorite techniques and it was so perfect for wings.

This wall hanging finishes at 20" x 22"

Here is a list of all the amazing bloggers who are participating:

Be sure and leave these bloggers some super sweet comments.

See all the frost on the fence.
Great for pictures, but I'm tired of it.

Wake me up when spring arrives.

Be You - Bold and Brave - Project Quilting Season 9, Project 3

Bold and Brave is the third challenge of
for
Project Quilting.

My entry is
Be You.

She announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.
Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.

I had such a hard time coming up with time and an idea for this challenge.
Then the saying Be bold, be brave, be you came to mind
and
just wouldn't get out of my head.

So I incorporated my love of quilting and my long career of hair styling
with little aspects of me.

Here's my picture process and some details.

I fused HeatnBond lite to the back of florals and cut them out.
I peeled off the backing paper and layed out my design
then I fused it all down to the backing fabric at once.

A few details like a cowboy hat, birds, Kansas City Chiefs.

Love Tula Pink fabrics for collage quilting.
