No squares?

I've kind of developed a theme this year for the challenges of quilting tiny.  

So strip piecing (3/4" unfinished strips) and tiny triangles are the direction I went.

The rule in this challenge is to be inspired by a book you have read.

It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

I had just finished the book, "The Forest of Vanishing Stars", by Kristin Harmel when the challenge was announced. It seemed like the logical choice of books.

This is a historical fiction novel (my favorite kind of read)

about survival in World War II. 

 It's sooooo good.  It's one that I just couldn't put down.

I've kind of developed a theme this year for the challenges of quilting tiny.

This was a tough one, as I wanted to do so many details, but in the end, 

each tiny star is inspired by a part of the book.  

2 1/2" finished blocks and then I added the center black and white star in the center.

The black and white star is for a pivotal person/moment in the book.

You'll have to read it to see.

It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

Since I've kind of developed a theme this year for the challenges of quilting tiny, so

I decided to do it again.  Kim has a post with a few tutorials and ideas to help get started with the quilt block and I was inspired by the Missouri Star - 54-40 or Fight Freestyle Quilt Tutorial.

They used the Shoo Fly Quilt block with the 54-40 or Fight Quilt block.

I loved it but went tiny with mine.

2" x 2" finished blocks.

Not perfect, but I still had a lot of fun!

Pink Pineapple - Project Quilting Season14, Challenge 2

   This is the second challenge of Season 14 of Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in the challenge -  Pink Tint

The rule in this challenge is that some shade of pink must dominate this project.

It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

It's so funny that I chose to use color for the first challenge this year.

So I went in the same direction with the second challenge.

I made a paper piece pattern with Electric Quilt.

I fink that when I am using super tiny pieces, StitchnSew Quilt Block Sheets hold together so much better than paper.  You can print directly from an inkjet printer and see your fabrics so much better while you stitch.

I found the cutest tiny quilt block fabric in my stash for the center

and stitched 85 tiny pieces to make

I decided to take the color route and use ONE color.

I made a paper piece pattern.

Chose 9 shades of green fabric.

Checked the values with a grey scale photo.

Heart Within - Project Quilting Season 12, Challenge 6

   This is the sixth challenge of Season 12 of Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in the challenge -  Ab Intra

My entry:

The rules in this challenge are that the project must be inspired by the Latin phrase, Ab Intra, which means from within. It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

I'm on a roll with paper pieced pincushions (this is my 6th)

so

I kept with my season 12 theme and made a pincushion with super tiny pieces.

I created a pattern to show my colorful heart within trying to get out.

I'm always inspired by color and create from my heart so I created my pincushion to represent.

The finished pincushion is 4" square so you can imagine how small these pieces are.

I've had inquiries into what I use for foundation paper piecing - 

I love StitchnSew EZ Print Quilt Block Sheets.

I can print the pattern on the sheet from my computer and they are tough enough to allow me to stitch tiny pieces without falling apart, but I can remove the pieces easily.

Here is the back before it became a pincushion.

All those 1/8" seams took foreveeeeeeeeeeeer!

And while I used so many pins to line up the seams, it's still not perfect.

But, either is my heart.

Guess that makes it perfect. Ha *insert smile*

I'm happy to say I completed all 6 of the challenges with a set of pin cushions
