Valentine Quilt Block Sew Along at Thermoweb - Jars of Love

I'm so excited to join with a few of the
talented Thermoweb designers
 for a
Valentine Quilt Block Sew Along.

There are 4 quilt blocks and the patterns are all free.

Today I am sharing this quilt block:

The fabics are
and the thread I used to stitch around the applique is
Aurifil thread:  50wt # 2620

I'm using HeatNBond EZ Print Lite to print the patterns right on the fusible adhesive to create the Jars of Love quilt block.  Just print, fuse, cut, bond, and stitch.  It's that easy.

Head over to the Thermoweb Blog
to download the FREE pattern
and
Quilt along with us.

I'll have a project with all the blocks soon.

Blog Hop Announcement - Strings

We have had so much fun hopping!

It's like old times, like a reunion, seeing old friends and being blown away by the stitching.

We are trying to keep the blog hops simple and easy to participate
which makes it nice for everyone...
us included.

I can't believe how creative these blog hops have been
and
can't wait to see where everyone takes this one.

Today I am happy to announce the next stitching blog hop.

There are about 2 months to sew something and join in on the fun.
It's another easy theme that should have you thinking of lots of things you could make.

Strings should be your inspiration.
Strings in quilting are generally strips that are 2 1/2" or narrower.
String quilts are named for the strips of fabric that are used to make a quilt.

Interpret it any way you like.

The blog hop rules:
sorry, there has to be a little organization...

Sew something that includes "strings".
This is your interpretation of the theme.

I'm not going to say you have to have a project that is 100% strings
(Although these quilts are beautiful)
Just include some "strings" somewhere.

It's up to you!  Inspire us.

Post your project on your assigned day.

Have a giveaway or don't have a giveaway. It's totally optional!

Visit everyone's blog on the list and leave a sweet comment.

Are you in?

Send me an email with the following information:
Your first name
Your email address
Your blog name
Your blog URL

I checked around the internet and there are a lot of ideas out there to get you started...

Make it Love - Project Quilting Season 10, Challenge 2

This is the second challenge of Season 10 of
Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in this challenge, "Red, White, and Blue."

My entry:

Make it Love

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kim announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.
Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.

The rules:

1. Your project should contain ONLY the colors RED, WHITE, and BLUE. It does not have to use all three, but it cannot include any additional colors.
2. Projects need to be created during the week of the challenge (started on or after January 20, finished by January 27).
3. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these three requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
4. Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.
5.  Link up by Sunday, January 27 at noon CST.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I worked this challenge a bit backward.
I quilted first on the long arm by combining a couple of Handi Quilter pre-loaded designs
on solid Kona white fabric with a scrap of batting between.
The quilting is with Aurfil 40 wt. long arm quilting thread.

This was great practice in placement with the preloaded designs on the Handi Quilter.
My thought was to make a little Valentine decor
and
not go the predictable patriotic direction.
As blue is not a traditional Valentine color, I felt this might be a challenge.
Next, I trimmed the design and used fabric markers to color the design with red and blue.

It really looks like it's been appliqued.
Can you imagine all those tiny pieces?

Here is the back to show the quilting.

Black & White Blog Hop - My Day, Final Day, and Giveaway

Did you hear the one about the skunk, zebra, panda bear, and penguin?

I really don't have a joke here, just a welcome
to
the final day of the
Black & White Blog Hop.

I'm sad to see this hop end.
My vision became a reality thanks to everyone who played along.

It has been so fun to see black and white
quilts and sewing projects
take center stage for one week
and
to all that participated or commented -

Thank you so much!

The projects have all been fantastic and the posts have had so many
tips and new ideas!!

Today is my day to show the project that started this whole Black and White hop idea.

I've been procrastinating the finish of this quilt for quite a long time. (years)
It's a jelly roll quilt in which I stitched 5 strips together at a time,
cut squares from the strip sets, paired the squares,
and made 4 half square triangles from each pair.
Some of the strip set squares were paired with solid Kona white too.
The process made some interesting blocks.
I cut white squares and laid out my design.

It was time to finish this quilt, thus, the Black & White Blog hop was born.
The borders were added, 2 - Kona white and 1 is black with white music notes.
I quilted it with meandering music notes edge to edge on the long arm with
Aurfil 40 wt. long arm quilting thread.

I've finished my first big quilt of the year!
The finished quilt is 80" x 80"
I love it!
