Bring on Spring - SCRAPtastic - Project Quilting Season 9, Project 6

SCRAPtastic is the sixth and final challenge of 

Season 9

for

Project Quilting.

My entry is

Bring on Spring

Kim at Persimon Dreams hosts Project Quilting.

She announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.

Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.

It wouldn't be Project Quilting without at least one project coming down to the last minute and this is the ONE.  Life happens sometimes...

The project is due at noon and the final stitch went in at 11:10.

Just enough time to photo and post.  Man is my heart pounding...

This is plan "B" for the challenge.  
There is a quilt in process that just wasn't going to be finished on time, so in true Project Quilting fashion, I picked up the scraps from that quilt and made this wall hanging.

Here are some process pictures.

I made a quilt canvas with a white middle 
and
 fabulous 2" scraps from Tula Pink's All Stars collection - "LOVE!"

I used a square from each fabric in the fat quarter bundle with the exception of 3  so I know there are at least 15 different fabrics.
 (I'm a rule follower and the challenge said to use at least 12 different fabrics - lol)

I enjoyed working backwards so much on a previous challenge, I decided to do it on this quilt too.

Plus it's great practice in placement with the preloaded designs on the Handi Quilter.

I decided on a flower design and quilted it with 2 layers of fleece 

between the top and back for lots of dimension.

Here's the back to show more of the quilting detail.

 I'm working on placement of blank space, but found I had a lot of threads to tuck with this design. I'm excited to try more though.

Next, I added color to the quilting by using fabric markers.

This has become one of my favorite "new to me" things to do.

You're One Cute Chick - Split Skirt Onesie Tutorial with Deco Foil

One thing I've learned by sewing for this sweet baby is

comfort is not only the number one priority in her clothing,

but she won't tolerate anything but comfort.

She makes everything "over the top'"cute, so there's no need for lace and frills

and this grammy has such a pretty model for all the little projects!

She's growing fast and has a lack of appreciation for uncomfortable dress-up clothes. 
 This is what led me to create a tutorial for a split skirt onesie over on the Thermoweb blog.

Now she can wear a dress and not even know she is.  

She has lots of kicking room, which is her favorite past-time.

The onesie is not only super simple to make into a dress, 

but is a great COMFORTABLE Easter outfit or would make a great gift.

Add a little bling with Deco Foil and make that onesie sparkle.

Time to Stitch - A Stitch in Time - Project Quilting Season 9, Project 5

A Stitch in Time is the fifth challenge of

When the challenge, 

"A Stitch in Time" was announced

my thoughts went back to pre-blogging days 

when I really didn't have a platform to share my projects

or

any challenges to push myself to be better. 

So I decided to dedicate this challenge to my stitch in time,

my blog.

It motivates me everyday, has given me so many friends, and is definitely a time in my life.

Almost 4 years ago to the day, 

I was the recipient of the best gift ever from my mentor and friend,

Mdm Samm.

She made this logo for my blog.

It really made this little blog look better and it really fits me.

I've changed the font in places and dissected the logo for watermarks and business cards

and it has become my brand.

So, for this challenge, I made a wall hanging to show my stitch in time.

I broke the logo down to pieces and appliqued the pieces with 

HeatNBond Lite.

I cut the letters out in the same way and then the thread painting and quilting began.

Here's the back to show more.

Choosing the binding color was harder at 3 am (4 if you figure the time change... lol)

than it would normally be, so I took a picture and decided on red.

I kind of wish I would have chosen black, but then, I'm always second guessing my decisions.

I've been wanting to make this for a long time

to remember these blogging times.

This challenge was perfect.

Blog Hop Announcement - Where Flowers Bloom

We have had so much fun hopping!

It's like old times, like a reunion, seeing old friends and being blown away by the stitching.

We are trying to keep the blog hops simple and easy to participate

which makes it nice for everyone...

Where Flowers Bloom

There is about 3 months to sew something and join in on the fun.  

It's another easy theme that should have you thinking of lots of pretty things you could make.

Flowers just bring smiles and isn't that what hopping is all about?!
