Contemporary Crazy Border Quilt - Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop

Today is my stop in the

Dust Off a Quilt Book
Blog Hop
Hosted by Bea at Beaquilter.

So, here is my Contemporary Crazy Border Quilt.

The idea for the hop is to find an old quilt book on your shelf and make something from it.

Here is my book:

The Quilting Bible from the Singer Sewing Reference Library
copyright 1997

This book has been sitting in my sewing room because I was intrigued by this project:

I have had this piece of fabric forever.

It was time to use it.

My Contemporary Crazy Border Quilt was fun and totally took me away from my own
design style.  I guess that is the point of a challenge such as this.

Here is the schedule of those showing off their old quilt book projects:

There are some fun old books to see.

I really do need to use my books more often.
I have so many that are from the 90's but not many older than that.
Now, magazines, I have waaaaaaay too many old ones.
It may be time to do some spring cleaning...

Thanks, Bea, this was fun!

Cute quilt, Carla! I like the way you could use your big print in it! The wacky plus signs/crosses are cool too! (I think I have that book--I need to use mine too! LOL)

What a fun idea. We all have older books we bought for a particular project, and never got to it! Yours is very cool, out of the usual comfort zone and stretching yourself.

That is so much fun! You modernized it even more than the book and it compliments your socks perfectly! LOL!! This makes me want to rethink some of my fabrics laying around here.

What a fun quilt, Carla! I love the rows and the fabric that was waiting in the wings for just the perfect quilt was...well...perfect!! I love pink and black and the retro vibe!

Very cool, Carla!! Stepping outside our GO TO design style from time to time can be challenging. This quilt proves that it is SEW worth the effort!

This is over-the-top incredible and totally something that would make me buy that book too. Love it!

What a great quilt and inspired from an old book...love it! So interesting that there is such a modern looking quilt in the 1997 book! Of course, that is not so old is it?

Great project, I love that fabric!

Your quilt turned out great. I love the idea of this blog hop. I know that when I flip through my older books I always remember the projects I was "planning" to make--and can often recall the many hours I spent considering fabric, perhaps even doing a little shopping...This is inspiring.

Your quilt is beautiful. I actually like it a lot more than the one in the book. :)

Love your project--so creative!

Wow, that is fabulous! Not only did you take something that was already ahead of it's time at publication, but you made it even more modern. It's a truly wonderful quilt, and I love the buildings you used in the corner.

Great quilt! I love how you broke up the neighborhood fabric. I was hoping to do this blog hop but there just isn't enough time in the day! You're so right that it's way past time for us to open up some of our beloved quilt books. Thanks for sharing a great, fun quilt!

That is such a cool quilt. I think the fabric you used instead of flowers makes it much more interesting than the flowers would have.

Very cool, and quite a ways from your usual style (which is also cool). Thanks for sharing your adventure!

What a pretty quilt. That book, the Quilting Bible, sounds like a great one. In this age of e books, which are fine, I do still love hard copy books as well.

What a great way to use that fabric! Your quilt looks fantastic!

My granddaughter made me a painting when she was 10 or 11. It's lavender, purple, black and teal paint drizzled and swirled on a canvas. I recently pulled this same book and the same pattern to make a quilt to go with the painting. I have all of the blocks made and plan to get them put together this week. I was so excited to see that you used this pattern.
