Twodles Birthday Cake Tote - Project Quilting Quilting Season 11, Challenge 1

This is the first challenge of Season 11 of
Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in this challenge, Notably Numeric.

My entry:
Twodles Birthday Cake Tote

Kim at Persimon Dreams hosts Project Quilting
and
this is the 8th year I'm participating.
Kim announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.
Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.

The rules in this challenge are that the project must feature numbers, counting, or mathematics in the theme or implementation.  It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

Time is never on my side, but as luck would have it, I have a
very special birthday party
to attend and the challenge was
the perfect opportunity to make a tote bag for a
sweet little 2 years old.

The cake block pattern is one I designed for Thermoweb and the free pattern
can be downloaded HERE.

I used
to print the patterns right on the fusible adhesive to create the cake applique.
Just print, fuse, cut, bond, and stitch.  It's that easy.

The original applique pattern has strawberries on top of the cake,
but to fit the theme of the challenge
and
the birthday party (Twodles),
I made a "2" birthday cake topper with ears and a bow.
(I made the pattern a little smaller to fit an 8" quilt block)

I made the lining two colors because I wanted black around the top, but you just can't see anything in the tote with a black lining.
I just put a 3" border at the top of the lining.

The tote will hold her birthday gift and she can use it as a little purse too.
