Welcome to Creatin' in the Sticks
and
my day - the final day for the
Winter Blues Blog Hop.
To all that participated or commented -
Thank you so much!
My head is swimming with all kinds of ideas
and I can't wait to get to stitching.
But first, it's my day to show my
"Catching Some Blue Zees" quilt.
I'm combining two challenges into one project this month.
You see, I am an Island Batik Ambassador
2020
and the ambassador challenge this month is
Let's Get Scrappy
We are to make a fun project with a scrappy look
using
Island Batik fabrics.
I started with a whole lot of Island Batik blue fabric left
from last year's projects and some that I had purchased before becoming an ambassador.
While I like blue and white together, I've had a love of blue and black since
I was young coloring those fuzzy black velvet-like posters.
While I like blue and white together, I've had a love of blue and black since
I was young coloring those fuzzy black velvet-like posters.
One of my goals is to make all 30 quilt blocks from
my
into 30 individual quilts.
I decided on the Catching Z's quilt block pattern - block #26.
Click HERE if you would like the free pattern for the block.
I made 30 of the blocks with the blue fabrics
and
Island Batik Foundations solid fabric in black.
The Island Batik solids are tight woven and are super soft like a high thread count sheet once you wash them up in a quilt.
The piecing was all done with Aurifil 50 wt thread #2692
I added a 2 1/2" black border then a 4 1/2" border with Island Batik 2 1/2" blue strips.
I used Hobbs Natural Cotton with Scrim Batting
and
Catching Some Blue Zees
is 65" x 75" and will be a gift for a special graduate this May.
Blue is her actual middle name
and this Aunt can't wait to surprise her.
We are celebrating the color blue!
I invited my blogging friends to
Stitch something up with the color blue.

I've always liked that pattern you used. I think it would be pretty if made scrappy in multiple colors too. All the quilts have been terrific. I liked Selinas pouches today.

I love your quilt and the China Dishes quilt from Karrin's Crazy World
Beautiful blues and so many great projects on this hop. Thanks so much for hosting!
Beautiful hues of blue showcased in this quilt. Your jeep is a close color to my suv - love that shot.
Awesome quilt! And the best blog hop ever, I loved every project. Thanks for helping us kick those winter blues to the curb with these awesome quilts!
Another great day on the blog hop! I especially loved the China Dishes quilt--probably because I am a dish fan as well as a quilter. (One of my grandmothers loved her china and tea cups; the other was a farm wife who quilted with the same quilting circle for more than 70 years, so that quilt brings it all together for me.)
Your batik quilt is gorgeous!! I really love batiks and love a pop of black with the blues. Thanks so much for the hop it was great!
Beautiful quilt. I like the pattern and how it matches you jeep! On the blog hop I like the china dish pattern.
This is an awesome quilt! I love the blues and black. Those 30 Blocks are helpful time and again. Great quilt, Carla, thanks for sharing and for the Hop!

A great project. I love projects that can use your left over fabrics.
THis has been a great hop. Your quilt is just fab and perfect for the scrap challenge as well. It really is one of my favorites today.
Great hop!! Wish I had seen this pattern before I started the quilt I am working on now. The colors just aren't working, and I think they would have if I were using your pattern. Oh well.
Wonderful blog hop! Your quilt is gorgeous, and it looks fabulous with your Jeep. Thanks for hosting. It was fun!
Thanks so much for coordinating the hop! I had fun, and your quilt is beautiful.
Hi Carla! You saved the best for last - I love it! This has been THE best hop. I am pretty darn sure I visited each website (four of them wouldn't open at work so I had to save them for home). I PINned so many new ideas to revisit later. WOW! Everything was uplifting and was certain to drive any visions of SAD far away. I love your quilt - and those IB fabrics. Ooh-la-la! Oh, I adore this as a graduation gift for Ms. Blue. She will take it with her into the next chapter in her life knowing that she will be covered and surrounded by your love. Literally! That's just the best! ~smile~ Roseanne
Your Jeep & quilt co-ordinate! Great project as well as gift!
Wow! I love those blues against the black background--I am totally with you on that color combination! The different shades of blue give it so much depth. Lovely!
Such a beautiful quilt. Love the blue fabrics. Thanks so much for hosting a wonderful hop.
