When you live in "fly over" country a familiar scene is jet streams in the sky. I always wonder where all those planes are taking people.
Well, where I am, they are probably headed to Denver or from Denver to somewhere east.
Kim at Persimon Dreams hosts Project Quilting.
She announces a challenge and you have one week (due by noon TODAY- central time) to create something quilty.
This is the fourth challenge of six for Season 7 of Project Quilting.
The challenge: Vacation
When the challenge was announced, the first thing that came to mind was,
"Get the Hell out of Dodge!"
I can say that...I live here....lol
I even drew and made a quilt block
but it just didn't do it for me.
(I'll make it into a bag and share it later)
The rules:
1. Vacation is the inspiration for this challenge. Use the way vacation makes you feel or the places you'd go or the transportation to get there. Anything vacation related that inspires you.
2. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
4. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.
5. Link up either a blog post or flickr image to the linky by Sunday, February 21st, 2016, at noon, CDT
Last summer I designed a row for the EQ Seasons row along
and
had made a quilt to take with us on vacation.
The quilt is one of my favorites because it was a hoot to make.
For this I couldn't copy the same thing, but I could be inspired by it
and a quilt my friend Carol over at Just Let Me Quilt had made with my Summer Fly By row.
I started with a jelly roll of Robert Kaufman Kona fabric in the Sunset pallet and did a bargello technique to join the 4 rows of 2" squares. Then I used the
Summer Fly By row paper pieced pattern
and broke it up into 3 separate rows for this quilt.
I love the way Kona fabric really shows quilting.
I used Aurifil 50 wt to quilt.
