It's a "Wild" Life - Block #2

Welcome!!
The wait is over!


March is here and it's time to reveal my design for the 
It's a "Wild" Life
Block of the Month.

Deer Meadow
Because everyone needs time to "meadow" out.


This block measures 24 1/2" x 12 1/2" unfinished and is pieced and appliqued.

To applique,
 I ONLY use my favorite fabric iron on adhesive by Therm O Web,

 For this block I used the EZ Print Lite sheets and it's so much easier than tracing all those little pieces.

After you have the block together, don't forget to head over to Amy's blog,

Teaser for Block #2 - It's a Wild Life BOM

Yellow by Design - Mellow Yellow - Project Quilting Season 9, Project 4

Mellow Yellow is the forth challenge of 
for
Project Quilting.

My entry is
Yellow by Design.



She announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.
Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.


I very seldom use yellow and this challenge was truly a challenge.

I've been quilting for others on the longarm a lot lately and it came to me while I was finishing a king sized quilt, that maybe I could start with the quilting for this challenge and work backwards.
So that is what I did.

The first step was to load the fabric and batting on the machine.
This one actually has two layers between the white fabrics, cotton batting and fleece.
I wanted lots of good dimension.


This was great practice in placement with the preloaded designs on the Handi Quilter.

Once I had the quilting finished, I pulled out all the yellow fabric markers I had and started working on the placement of color.  
I've seen this on blogs before, but have never tried it myself.

I quilted a couple small practice pieces to play with before I tackled the challenge entry.

Here are some progress photos.



This was a lot of fun, but magnification helped to put the color in the little, tiny spots.


The back is still nice and white.


It really looks like it's been appliqued.
Can you imagine all those tiny pieces?

Don't tell my hubby, he is still amazed I finished this wonderful "appliqued" quilt in a week.

(kind of like the Rice Krispies commercial from long ago -mom with flour all over her face)

Yellow is a happy color and it reminds me of sunshine.
Why I don't use it more - I have no idea.
Maybe I will add more of it from now on.
