30 Quilt Blocks in 30 Days - Block 10

Block number 10 means we are 1/3 of the way through the blocks.

It seems like they are flying by.

Here is block #10

Chunky Pinwheel

Size Unfinished: 10 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Finished Size: 10 x 10"

Cut  8 rectangles 3" x 5 1/2" - four red / four white

Stitch them together as laid out with 1/4" seams.

Stitch the rectangles right sides together,

pairing one white with one red. 

 Next stitch the units together to form the Chunky Pinwheel block.

Wouldn't a quilt of Chunky Pinwheels be fun?

I can see them all different colors with a white background too.

Number 9  the highest one-digit number

and the quilt block for today.

Accomplishment?

I say, "oh, yeah!"

Let's get it done.

Topsy Turvy

Size Unfinished: 10 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Finished Size: 10 x 10"

Cut 4 rectangles 3" x 5 1/2" - two pink / two white

Cut 2 squares - 5 1/2" - white

Stitch them together as laid out with 1/4" seams.

Stitch the small rectangles together right sides together

then stitch a square to each rectangle unit.  

Next stitch the two columns together.

I've always wanted to make a pink and black quilt

and call it "Good and Plenty."

This one is 6 blocks across and down with 1" and 2" borders.

My fabric scrap pile is taking a hit with these blocks and I'm so happy about that.

Sometimes, I enjoy the blocks enough to make 2 or 3 of them.

Who knows how many quilts I'll have finished by the first of the year.

At least 2 ...

I am working on donation quilts and scrap organization.

This challenge is perfect for both.

Let's make block 8.

You can make block #8 several ways but I'll show you 2

because I love shortcuts.

Staggered

Size Unfinished: 10 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Finished Size: 10 x 10"

Construction technique #1:

Cut 4 rectangles 3" x 5 1/2" - white

Cut 4 rectangles 3" x 5 1/2" - orange

Stitch them together as laid out with 1/4" seams.

Stitch the columns then stitch the columns together, matching seams.

OR

Construction Technique #2:

Cut 2 rectangles 3" x 11" - white

Cut 2 rectangles 3" x 11" - orange

Stitch them together as laid out with 1/4" seams.

Next, cut this unit in half as shown at 5 1/2" so you have 2 columns

5 1/2" x 10 1/2".

Flip the second column so the white rectangle is on top

Stitch the columns together with 1/4" seams.

See, now I have 2 of #8.

Maybe I should keep making these and then I could have this quilt.

Holiday Quilt Block Table Runner

Teaming up with other Thermoweb designers for the Holiday Quilt Block Sew Along
 has been so much fun! 

 Each ornament block has been gorgeous and now it's time to put them all together into a
 festive holiday decor project.

Welcome to block #7.

Let's have fun with this quickie and call it 

Stripper

Size Unfinished: 10 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Finished Size: 10 x 10"

Cut 4 rectangles 3" x 10 1/2" - two yellow / two white

Stitch them together as laid out with 1/4" seams.

We worked extra hard yesterday on 2 blocks so it's fun to do this over the top simple block.

We used up a little of our scraps too.

How can such a simple block make such a cool quilt?

30 blocks, 5 across and 6 down, with every other one rotated and a couple of borders.

Super modern and fun in any color.

How is it going?  Your almost 1/4 of the way through these blocks.

How crazy is that?
