Wedding Chucks

With the wedding only three months away, my daughter and I are putting the details together.

She has hired a wedding planner to worry about most of the preparation,

but

we are a crafty family and want to add our own personal touches.

You can plan on seeing wedding projects here for the next few months.

First up:  Wedding Chucks

Trista, my daughter (the bride) will be wearing high heels for the wedding ceremony

(She is jazzing them up, too, but that is another post to come)

but when the reception dance starts

she wants to have comfortable shoes to run around in and greet her guests.

Her shoe of choice:   Converse Chuck Taylor tennis shoes

 She came over this weekend and we played around with wedding stuff.  

She decided to model my old headpiece from my wedding.

It is definitely not her style...wink.

She worked on the heels and I reworked her chucks to make them more bridal.

This is what they looked like before...

I used lace from her little dress as I did before in the quilted flag.

Sneak peek of fair results

The lace overlay was glued to the outside of the shoe with fabric glue.

I sewed pre gathered lace around the opening of the shoe and rows of the lace to the tongue.

She wanted to leave the label exposed.
I was going to cover the red stripe with pearls, but she likes it the way it is, so it stays.

I poked organza ribbon through the eyes of the shoe for laces.

The bride will dance the night away in comfort and her style.

We are having such a wonderful time getting ready for the big event.
There are lots of memories being made.
As it should be.

Kick Up Your Heels

I've just finished this block 

and later today it is headed to the 

Ford County Fair.

The theme for the quilt block contest this year is 

Kick Up Your Heels.

My regular readers will remember this quilt.

You Can Can Can.

I used the template  for the can can dancers and put two dancers on a stage for a 12inch block.

The skirts are satin ribbon I gathered into ruffles.  The faces and hair are machined stitched with two threads in the needle.  I used a decorative stitch on my Janome sewing machine for the trim on the curtains.

Fusible was used for the legs with Moda Basic Grey Little Black Dress floral lace fabric. I used a blanket stitch around the legs.

We will see if the judges think this says kick up your heels.

Belated Happy Independence Day

Just home from a trip to the Tulsa, Oklahoma area to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and family.

After finding this little table at a garage sale, my sister and her family painted it to make it new again.

Isn't it cute?  

And the kids loved sitting on the deck eating watermelon on their own table.

We managed to fit a lot of things into a 48 hour getaway.

My hexi-box-to-go is all organized and I managed to start another hexagon project.

(that was hours on the road)

I am so slow when it comes to hand sewing...

We found a rustic furniture store close to my sister's house.  We were in furniture heaven and ordered a few pieces that will be delivered to our cabin in a few weeks.

Finally, after shopping for years, our living room will see some furniture.

Hubby helped with a little plumbing.  At least he earned our keep while we were there...hehe

But, best of all we were surrounded by love and great hospitality.

The food and company were perfect!

Our garden had a few offerings when we arrived home.

Now it's

Back to reality...

But I'm still giggling,
