Here come the holidays and I'm already running.

BUT,

I have my November blocks complete for the 

Modern Block Party.

(What?  before the end of the month?)

Ms. November requested blocks to make the quilt

"Second Wind" 

from Rachel Griffith's book

Quilts Made With Love.

These were very simple blocks, but sometimes those are the things that get wonky on me.  

LOL

The bright and fun fabrics she chose are Kate Spain's Day Dream.

Ms. November mentioned something about creating a group in the future to make

little pink houses

so....

Why wait for the future?

I created a little pink house as a surprise.

One for her and of course one for me.

9 1/2" x 12 1/2"

The last one is mine because the bottom roof is a touch wonky.  

It was the first pattern I drew and the blasted triangle just isn't right.

I like the squared up roof a little better.

 of course, as usual, I want a quilt of them...

Tropical Sunset for Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2014

Welcome to my entry into the

Blogger's Quilt Festival.

Made with the Kona Sunset fabric palette

I call this quilt

Tropical Sunset

This year, Kona Cotton Solid fabric  by Robert Kaufman is celebrating 30 years

and have now reached 303 hues of solid colors.

I tend to use a little Kona in most of my quilts.

This quilt was made for the 

Wake Up to Kona Blog Hop

in January.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Amanda Murphy's book

Color Essentials

which is full of information in color study and has great projects using Kona palettes.

The pattern is from this book and is called Color Burst.

I used Black Kona as the background.

In her book, Amanda Murphy talks about using "Poison Colors" - colors directly opposite on the color wheel to add interest and movement to a design.  I decided to take that advice and use orange as the binding color. 

The orange really fits with a sunset and added a little pop.

I quilted the main part with free motion flowers using Aurifil thread and wavy lines on the water (teal) part.

Amanda has an excellent tutorial for continuous bias binding on her blog. 

This was my first  bias binding, by the way.  Love.

Tropical Sunset is in the small quilt category.

With a radius of 36"

this quilt is approximately 226" around, not counting all the bumps and indentations.

90 Degrees in October?

90 degrees in October?

Why yes it is.

That's why we are smiling.

That and we took a ride in the Viking this afternoon.

And watched the sun go down.

It was just beautiful.

I finished a couple of blocks for October in my Modern Block Party.

The queen of October is using these blocks to make a Patchwork Chevron Quilt.

Why is it, that every month I make these blocks I want to make the quilt?

These girls have great taste in pattern and colors.

The weatherman is saying this warm weather is going away.....

How sad.

I'll miss you warm weather.
