For the Boys - All Aboard

Jump on board by riding the rail or enjoy the ride of an undefeated NFL football team on my stop in the "For the Boys" blog hop. A Train Quilt for Brody

The first project is a quilt for my nephew, Brody. I just had to get one of my Aunt Challenge quilts going. (I have a goal to make quilts for all of my nieces and nephews working my way up from the youngest.) I saw this picture of Brody online one day and knew exactly what I wanted to draw out for his quilt.

Brody is always on the fast track, so this will be the perfect cover if he ever slows down. The fabric is all Kona solids with the exception of the yellow which was in my stash. The quilting is free motion and straight line. The quilting on the engine is curved to make it look round.

I am planning to make one more of these for another nephew and will offer the pattern soon.

If you stopped by yesterday, you've seen this picture. Weekends in the fall become all about football around here and my hubby and I are big fans of the Kansas City Chiefs. (9-0 Baby!) I wanted to make my hubby something...

A stadium cushion and blanket will make the games much more comfortable. These are styled with NFL footballs in mind.

A look at the back and the quilting

I stitched this up using Kona for the front and Chiefs fabric for the back. I quilted lassos to make the quilt look a little like the pig skin. I did the binding on the machine. This was a first on a larger quilt, for me. It will make it a little stronger, I suppose, but I like hand sewing the binding.

It was fun to finally make DH something. He likes it enough that he took it out to his shop and took pictures of it with a sign he had out there. (Maybe he is tired of being the photographer's assistant) lol. I had to enhance the picture for him, just a little. *giggle*

There are more of these in my future. I have been asked to make the stadium cushions for some clients and my son is a Tennessee Titans fan and the fabric arrived today for his. I will find time to properly draw this pattern to share soon. *UPDATE The pattern is available HERE.

Fall Crafting with DIY Wreaths

Yesterday was beautiful. Not only for the weather, but our daughter spent the day with us. We did everything from walking the dogs, riding the four wheeler, and shopping to CRAFTING.

Before I share our crafty creations, I want to show off this bag that came to me in the mail. My beautiful friend Jennifer over at Glinda Quilts made this pants bag for my daughter. How lucky am I? Jennifer is one of the most giving quilters I know and she is showering the world with her pants bags. I'm lucky enough to have two pants bags in the family now. If you wonder what a pants bag is, Jennifer says, "Pants Bags is the name I call these drawstring bags as I use them when I travel - I don't like to put my drawers in other people's drawers, so to speak!" I'm working on returning her kindness with a surprise, but that will have to wait... (Oh, the suspense)

Burlap wreath with felt roses

We crafted fall wreaths yesterday. This is my fall burlap wreath. I made a Christmas burlap wreath last year and liked it enough to make another.

Burlap wreaths are so simple to make. This one was made with a roll of wide burlap ribbon and a wire wreath. Just wrap the burlap around the wreath, weaving it through the top and bottom wires. I attach the burlap in the back with wire because it may come loose in southwest Kansas wind.

The felt roses are made by cutting a piece of felt into 3 equal sized strips. Fold and glue the cut edges to the center and roll it up by twisting it slightly into a rose shape while hot gluing it as your roll. Then just glue the roses on and attach a little string or ribbon bow. I added a few pine cones to this one, also.

My daughter purchased a vine wreath, silk flowers, little pumpkins, and leaves. She hot glued them to the wreath, presto, a fall wreath for her house is made. Isn't she a beauty? My daughter and the wreath.

You just can't beat family time.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Peace and Harmony

Welcome to my post for Amy's Creative Side's Blogger's Quilt Festival!

I apologize to my faithful readers for the repeat of this quilt, but I really felt like sharing it in the festival. I first blogged about Peace and Harmony here.

I've always been a fan of the artwork on the Grateful Dead albums and used that as my inspiration for this quilt. It's kind of tie dye meets pixels in batiks. I think of it as color harmony in a twist.

This quilt was part of the "Twisting to the 60's with Batiks" blog hop. I quilted thousands of peace signs with free motion quilting on my domestic machine. Variegated cotton thread was used for the top and white polyester thread was on the back. The back fabric was pieced with a peace sign fabric and white on white flowers.

I enjoyed designing and putting this quilt together, mostly because I'm a fan of bright colors. It is a nice bed sized quilt and was worth every moment of creating.
