X-Block Blog Hop

I'm so happy you stopped by for my day in the
X-Block Blog Hop.

Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy invited me to join this hop to celebrate our friend
purchase of

Congratulations Doris on your new acquisition!

What are X-Blocks?
X-Blocks are acrylic rulers designed to transform simple pieced quilt blocks or pieced strips into new designs by just a little rotation.

I started playing with the 7 1/2" X-Block ruler
 and
strip sets of grey and white fabrics.

I put the blocks together into a table runner, quilted it, and decided to add some color to the design with

The Kanzashi flower tutorial can be found by clicking HERE and I used 6 - 4" squares for each flower.

Here is my Kanzashi Flower Table Runner made with 12 - 7 1/2" X-Blocks from strip sets.

As I was looking at the table runner, I could see cubes like baby blocks
 and
wanted to explore that idea a little more.

So I made more strip sets and got to work on a new project.

I had a lot of fun playing with light and dark fabric strips and the reverse of the blocks.
I love the geometrical look and I'm calling it Blue Qubert.
Blue Qubert is 55" x 55".

It's even better blowing in the wind...

I made this quilt by stitching strips together, cutting them into blocks with the 7 1/2" X-Block tool,
and stitching the blocks together.
I didn't have to measure or worry about angles - that's my kind of quilt project.

Be sure and check out the other X-Block designs in the hop:

May 10th

Thank you, Amy and Doris, for a fun Blog Hop.

You can win this wonderful prize package worth over $175!!

Hi Carla,
Each time I visit your website I am struck at how fun and friendly it looks. I have been meaning to say that for ages. I'm already convinced that I absolutely NEED this ruler. No doubt about it, but your table runner is fabulous. I just love the gray and white together, even if you didn't embellish it with those adorable little flowers. And then your second project reminds me so much of the maze quilts that I've been seeing. Again, just slightly different fabrics gives it shading and a 3D look. Love it!! Thank you for the inspiration today.

Oh the flowers on the table runner are the perfect addition. Love that little pop of color! And the blocks on Blue Qubert are fabulous! Thanks so much for participating!

Marian said...

Those flowers just make that table runner pop, pop, and pop.. It just gives it that little bit of extra that it really needs to show off the grey and white colors.

The coolest tho is the turquoise and blue quilt, just wonderful, wonderful and wonderful. I know for me I'd have never tried this idea just because one looks at this quilt and they think "inset" seams... my least favorite and most avoided type of pattern. In fact, I've made one and that was the end of that... LOL to funny since inset seams are so popular in clothing and I love making my own clothes still. But the rulers make you really see that anything is possible and you could avoid that inset seam with this ruler. I love that quilt. Beautiful job Carla.

Judy said...

OMG! Those quilts are awesome! Love the color choices and 3 quilts for 1. You can't go wrong with that plan. I really, really want to make some of those quilts.
