Welcome to the first day of the
Salt and Sand Blog Hop!
I'm happy to kick things off with
Miles of Beach!
Carol of Just Let Me Quilt has invited bloggers to make an ocean/sand-themed project.
After all, we are all dreaming of vacation and the beach would be a great place to escape.
Thank you, Carol, for inviting me to join this super fun blog hop!
Visiting with my hubby one day, I told him my favorite place to run is on the beach.
His response was, "I'll take you to the river bed where there are miles and miles of beach!"
That's where the name of this quilt comes from.
We have lots of sand with no water here in Dodge City, Kansas. You see, our river is dry.
The Arkansas River runs through Dodge and although it has lots of water to the west in Colorado and 30 miles to the east of us there is water, here there is none.
Just miles and miles of sand.
So I took my ocean colors to the river bed for some sand pictures.
I randomly made log cabin "ish" blocks, wrapped them in sand-colored fabric, and cut them wonky. The border is from the strips too.
The completed quilt is about 62" x 72".
Perfect to lay on the sand...
if you can avoid the traffic. haha
Yes, those are tire tracks.
That's about all there is to do at the river, 4-wheel drive in the sand.
The sand gets quite loose and deep in some areas.
But for now, I will live through my friends.

Gorgeous quilt, and photos. Those wonky log cabin blocks are super cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt Carla, lovely colors as well. Those borders are a great way to use up the scraps.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just beautiful! Love the colors and love that you took photos at a "sort of beach" :) xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, cheerful quilt! It definitely puts me in a "beachy" mood.
ReplyDeleteYou have taken your scraps and made a lovely quilt. A large river runs through my city on its way to the ocean about 30 miles away. I love the beach. I think I would find a dry riverbed full of sand a bit sad if not for your lovely quilt to brighten it. Nay your day be a bright and happy as your quilt. Thanks for sharing in the hop ... <3 Pat
ReplyDeleteI love love this quilt.
ReplyDeleteA super quilt, Carla! I love all that ocean/sea color framed in sand. That great border is a perfect framing for the wonky blocks. A whole lotta scrappy goodness here. You can spread your quilt out and sunbath while imagining an inviting river of water at your feet. At least until a truck drives by. Ha! I love your husband’s sense of humor and I’m glad you went for it to get these fun beach photos with your quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is great eye candy and wonderful inspiration for using those scraps. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful colour choices. It's amazing (and sometimes scary) what we can do with our scraps.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and the colours do represent the colour of the beach.
ReplyDeleteI am lucky enough to go for a morning dip every morning in the warm weather .
Hope you get to visit a beach soon.
Terrific kick off to this hop. Your quilt really brings the water to the beach at least for your pictures. I love the wonky display of the blocks, kinda wavey.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. Now, I am kind of a history buff, so is this Dodge City the same Dodge City as Gunsmoke? Yes. I love old t.v. shows.
ReplyDeleteYour choice of blues really evoke the sea. I can see this quilt in a beach house. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI live in Colorado (farther north than where the Arkansas River flows), but didn't know anything about what happens to the river when it gets your way, so had to go read about that before I could comment! I'm so sorry there's no water in your area of the river! You made lemonade out of those lemons with your beautiful beachy quilt. Love the blues and tans you've put together there!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so beautiful, Carla, with a definite beach feel to it. I love that you're using your scraps to make so many incredible things. Putting blue scraps together in log cabins and then that incredible scrappy border is amazing! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWho knew that you had such nice sandy beaches? LOL! A little water to go with them sure would be nice though. You nailed the theme with your scrap management this year. What a fun way to use up "stuff".
ReplyDeletethat is just LOVELY! love all about it. (I need to order some beige tan yardage to have in stock, ha ha)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quilt to start this hop. I love the wonky log cabins and this makes me want to make one soon. Your colors capture the beach perfectly.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I love the blues you used!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Love your beach quilt; look out for those 4-wheelers!
ReplyDeleteThat's a playful quilt - love those ocean colors! Cute addition of the sunglasses on your image Carla!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the prettiest Twist 'n Turn quilts I've ever seen, but maybe it's because it's blues!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!!! Love the colours!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful, Carla! I love the colors & the design. I am astonished that the Arkansas is dry there!! It has to run underground? Makes neat scenery, though. 😊
ReplyDeleteA lovely and comfy quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your "beach" with us.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful fun quilt, and made from scraps a double win in my books!
ReplyDeleteYour pretty quilt reminds me of sea glass.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! Not a surprise as I love all your work. Now, I was thinking you lived in Texas...have I been wrong all this time?
ReplyDeleteI really love your beautiful quilt.Great inspiration, thank you.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is such fun and if you didn't mention that there was no water, I actually thought you took this picture at the beach.
ReplyDeleteLet's hear it for a string beach quilt!! I love you Kansas beach!! My Dad grew up in Missouri but moved to Los Angeles when he was first married to mom. I guess he was craving real waves. I love your wonky log cabin blocks and the setting where you photographed the quilt. It's a wonderful quilt and it will be wonderful anywhere...with or without water.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt. I love the pieced inner borders.
ReplyDeleteCarla Miles of Beach is gorgeous and I loved hearing about your waterless beach. One day soon we will be able to safely travel to the real beach again. 😉
ReplyDeleteLove a quilt that uses up the stash. Those wonky cabins put those aquas to eye=popping on the sandy back ground.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! Love the colors! Love the name!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Sand and Sea quilt! Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, Carla! I feel your pain regarding sand and see. We have similar “ beaches”! Ours might be a bit more rocky! 😁 And full of 4-wheeler tracks and DUST! But a girl can dream and your quilt will “take you there!”
ReplyDeleteGreat beachy themed quilt! And it was nice to see the beaches of Western Kansas.
ReplyDeleteWay to bust some scraps, Carla!!
ReplyDeleteLol Miles of beach...isn't that too cute for a name. Makes me a bit sad to hear of 'no water' and sure do wonder about that. How long has there been 'no water'? Love your quilt and how you added the label at the back using another partial block. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAll the suv's have the right idea. I'd much rather play in the sand with them rather that run in it. Your quilt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your river beach
ReplyDeleteSuper quilt. Looks like my beach Wish I could share a picture with you.
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful "beaches" of Western Kansas! Lovely finish. The colors just pop on your beach!
ReplyDeleteOh this is gorgeous!!! And I love the Miles and Miles of beach story...
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute, Carla! Love your sandy beach, and that is a fun way to spend your time. Love the quilt too - the pattern, the colors. Perfecly beachy!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and so cool to use up scraps. Sometimes doing that is just so satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and that you used scraps. I'm also into scrap management this year but unfortunately they still seem to be breeding! I'm also interested in geography so your picture of the dry river bed had me visiting google maps to see just were the photos fit in America.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Definitely feeling that beachy vibe, even if that sand isn't near water!
