Stripe Me a Diamond - Be a Diamond Blog Hop and Giveaway

Welcome to Creatin' in the Sticks
and
my day in the
Be a Diamond Blog Hop.

Carol at Just Let Me Quilt is hosting this blog hop
and
the posts have just been incredible.

I never thought about how diamonds in quilts can be so different
and add so much movement in a quilt.

My quilt is called
Stripe Me a Diamond.

It's string pieced on a foundation and then the diamond shape is paper pieced.

I started by drawing my own diamond paper pieced quilt block in Electric Quilt.

by Thermoweb
made paper piecing the diamonds
a piece of cake.
They are sturdy and see-through, yet easy to tear away.
They don't fall apart if you have to correct a mistake.
Ask me how I know...

You print the quilt block directly on the quilt block sheet and get right to stitching.

I made 64 blocks and played with the layout.

I wish I had taken a picture of my husband and son helping me remove all the quilt block sheets from the blocks. What would we do without help sometimes?

Ultimately deciding on an ombre look for sashing and borders.

Stripe Me a Diamond is 66" x 66"
and
is a stash busting quilt.

I quilted it on the Handiquilter with dragonflies and loops with the pro stitcher.

Be sure to visit all the diamonds of the day:

 Today - April 26

And here is a behind the scenes picture of my hubby helping me after a long day at work...

Again, what would we do without help?
I'm so lucky.

  11. This is a beautiful quilt that just sparkles like a diamond...love it! Those sheets are the best for paper piecing and make it so easy to tear off. I don't know what I'd do without my "crew" to help with photo shoots and all the other quilting needs I have. Thanks for hopping with us and sharing this amazing quilt!

  29. This quilt is gorgeous, Carla! I love those striped diamonds! I actually drew my first diamond paper pieced block in EQ8 yesterday! I guess your post is confirmation that that is really the way to go with my cornerstones! Mine won't be striped but it is paper-pieced. This will be the first time I've ever used a paper pieced block in a quilt. It's for our guild show in June. Now, after seeing how yours look so beautiful, I can't wait to go try this out. I'm new at paper piecing. I wish I had some of that StitchNSew to try out today!! LOL Have a great weekend, Carla - and thanks for the inspiration!
