A-Moozing - Project Quilting Season 10, Challenge 4

This is the fourth challenge of Season 10

Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in this challenge, "Pixel Play"

The rules:

Be inspired by digital pixelization.
Projects need to be created during the week of the challenge (started on or after February 17, finished by February 24).
Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these three requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.

The challenge is something I've always been interested in and have made a few quilts using various techniques to create pixeled looks.

I have been involved in two blog hops (at the same time)

and had a challenge for

Island Batik this week.

All while trying to recover from surgery.

(I planned ahead, but my social media has been lacking - sorry)

So this was my chance to go small, and I mean small.

After all, it's been "mini" week here in the Sticks- this is #4.

I marked a 3/4" grid on the non-fusible side of HeatnBond lightweight interfacing with a sharpie marker, cut out fabric in 3/4" squares, and made my design.

Next, I laid out the fabrics on the fusible side, bonded them, and then started stitching 1/4" seams. The interfacing helps to keep everything in place.

The seams have to be trimmed to 1/8" to reduce the bulk.

Tea Time - Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop

I really was into Debbie Mumm too.

That seems so long ago and so crazy.

I purchased this book a couple year ago at an antique shop for 3 dollars

It has a quilt in it with baseball gloves, bats, and balls that I really want to make someday, but time wasn't on my side to do it this time.

So I chose this cute mini and updated it with more modern colors from my stash.

On Angel's Wings - Show Your Wings Blog Hop

Carol said, "Show Your Wings" and let's do a blog hop.

I put on my angel wings.

Welcome to the Sticks and my stop in the

Thank you, Carol, for a great idea for a blog hop!

It's no secret, I love collage quilting and this hop seemed like the perfect chance to pull out my box of HeatnBond® Lite backed floral fabrics and make some wings.

I stitched my angel with Aurifil thread in a triple stitch on my machine

then I appliqued my wings.

To hold down all those edges, I micro stippled the wings.

Collage quilting is one of my favorite techniques and it was so perfect for wings.

This wall hanging finishes at 20" x 22"

Grow - Magnificent Minis with Island Batik

Becoming an
Island Batik Ambassador
is a chance for me
to grow both as a quilter and a blogger.

Every month,
Island Batik Ambassadors have a challenge in which a project is made and shared
and
this month's challenge
is
Magnificent Minis.

The challenge for February is to make a mini quilt that is smaller than 24" x 24".

I used the challenge to make a wall hanging to remind myself to
grow from these challenges.

(In case I forget why I'm doing this...lol)
Actually, I picked out some of the fabrics I liked and I designed the wall hanging to add a little color to my sewing room and bring in a little spring.
Will winter ever end?

I received some 5" strips in my Island Batik box.

I used some of those with the
basic grey and white that I received.

The fabrics are so bright and I love the designs.

I used Aurifil 50 wt in black to stitch down the fusible appliques
and
to stitch the "GROW" with a triple stitch on the flower pot.

I used Hobbs Thermore batting which is perfect for wall hangings.

The quilting is free-motion
with Aurifil 50 wt on my domestic machine.
Minis are perfect for playing with quilting designs.

Finished size: 18" x 18"

Valentine Sew Along - Framed by Love

has been so much fun!

As a member of the designer group,

I shared this quilt block:

Jars of Love

The fabrics I used are

Vintage Berries by Sweet Bee Designs

and the thread I used to stitch around the applique is

Aurifil thread: 50wt # 2620

I used HeatNBond EZ Print Lite to print the patterns right on the fusible adhesive to create all of the quilt blocks.

Just print, fuse, cut, bond, and stitch. It's that easy.

Today I am ready to share the finished quilt and the free pattern to put the blocks together.

Color It In - Project Quilting Season 10, Challenge 3

This is the third challenge of Season 10 of

Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in this challenge, "Bigger Than a Breadbox"

Your project must have one measurement (length, width, or height) larger than 16″, and another measurement larger than 8″.

Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these three requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.

This challenge came the same weekend that I was able to open the boxes I received

from Island Batik.

I am so excited to be an

Island Batik Ambassador for 2019 One of the many benefits of being an Ambassador for Island Batik this year is the gift of an Accuquilt - Ready Set Go! Ultimate Fabric Cutting System.

This challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to figure out the cutting system, so I used a free pattern from the Pattern & Idea Book from the GO! Qube 8" Block, Pencil Me In Wall Hanging
Instead of using my new Island Batik fabrics, I thought I should start out with some scraps from my stash to figure this whole new world out.

As I was cutting, I found out, the system is really easy to use and my worry about fabric was silly. But, this challenge gave me a chance to try out my new toy. I'm calling my new quilt, Color It In. I used Kona Solids for the pencils and border and white stash scraps for the background. The pencil tan color is Moda Grunge
