Barbed Wheels - Wonderful World of Color Blog Hop

Welcome to the first day of the

Wonderful World of Color
 Blog Hop!

I'm happy to kick things off with my
"Barbed Wheels"
Quilt

Joan at MooseStash Quilting presented bloggers with the challenge to make something
inspired by the world or color. Joan explained the sky is the limit on this challenge.
Basically, anything could fit this theme...
Thank you, Joan, for inviting me to join this super fun blog hop!

I started this quilt for another blog hop and the further I went the more I wanted to do.
The hop, Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop hosted by Bea at Beaquilter, was just that -
use an old quilt book to make a new, fresher version of the quilt.

This book is McCall's Book of Quilts, copyright 1965 - 1975 and the pattern is Pinwheel Quilt.

I had planned to make a mini Pinwheel Quilt, but I loved the pattern so much that I decided to make a larger quilt with the pattern.
(I seem to do this a lot - do you?)

So I made something else from another book for the Dust Off a Quilt Book Hop
 and
 saved this quilt for
the Wonderful World of Color blog hop so I could make it larger.

Instead of using templates as the pattern suggested, I paper-pieced the blocks and made them larger.

This really was fun and I enjoyed the process, until...

All that paper had to be removed.  *SMILE*

In the end, it was worth all the hours.

I love making color wheel quilts and this one is definitely staying here with me.

There are so many different scraps in this quilt.
It's about 58" x 58" and is backed with Minky fabric to make it cozy.

It's my new favorite!

I'm sharing my colorful day with these bloggers:

Get inspired by all the blogs posting for the Wonderful World of Color Blog Hop this week!
Joan has the full schedule HERE.

Have fun hopping!

Don't forget to leave all the bloggers a little "comment love!"

See you here next month for

and
there is still time to sign up for June

I wanted to share pictures from my trip to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago.

I can't share too much because we did what we quilters do
-we took quilt pictures and I can't share that quilt yet.

But, I have a couple of pictures I can share!
We had so much fun hanging out with Carol (Just Let Me Quilt) and her husband.

It's amazing how these online relationships grow into the closest friendships.
We talked and talked and the hubbies could hardly get a word in.
It was the BEST time!
I think the guys had a good time too.
At least they had stories of holding up quilts to compare and really had a lot in common.

Thank you, so much, our friends!
Lifelong memories were made and we hope there are many more to come!

Here is to Friendship!

Enjoy a colorful week everyone!

  7. Carla!...fabulous colorful quilt! The name barbed wheels is so fun! I love pinwheels too. As I’m looking at your quilt, I can also see saw blades for a woodworker’s quilt in toned down blah boy colors (ha). I did a paper pieced throw quilt last year and I know how darn heavy they can be working on them while the papers are still in.

  18. This is another beautiful masterpiece of your creativity. The rainbow of colors is perfect for this...wow! They need to make dissolving paper for paper piecing. I love to paper piece but removing paper is the worst part. We had so much fun with you two and would love to do it again!

  25. Wow. What a beautiful piece. I'd love to see the original pattern to see how it compares. Great fabric choices and what a great way to use scraps. I always love the pulling and piling of rainbow scraps - it's always so satisfying.
And it's always so nice to get to spend time with friends, regardless of how we made them.

  34. The Barbed Wheels quilt is fabulous! I love that it was paper pieced. Taking the papers off is my favorite part, but it does add to the work load. I find that a good paper project is what I need every now and then. It's amazing all the ways one can make a quilt. Your pattern could have been done without paper too. The scrappy rainbow effect is wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
