Practically Luminous - Project Quilting Quilting Season 12, Challenge 1

This is the first challenge of Season 12 of Project Quilting.

I'm excited to join in the challenge -  Illuminating + Ultimate Gray

My entry:
Practically Luminous

this is the 9th year I'm participating.
Kim announces a challenge and you have one week to create something quilty.
Prizes can be won and it's a great way to meet new blogging friends.

The rules in this challenge are that the project must feature Pantone’s Color of the Year 2021 – which is actually two colors: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.  It must include either applique, piecing, or have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

I worked on a quilt top all week off and on for the challenge but in true Project Quilting style,
I had to scrap that idea because of the time and make something I could finish.
I'll be able to finish the quilt top later for my personal challenge of finishing quilts
for all of my quilt blocks in

To have a finish for Project Quilting,
I printed a paper pieced pattern and made myself a
Practically Luminous Pincushion.

  1. I like your quilt top, but I think your pincushion steals the show this time.

  4. I sympathize on scrapping the large quilt for your entry. At least, you were able to complete the pieced top, as mine refused to grow beyond 24" square! I think a "daily user" entry is just as nice as your big quilt would have been for the challenge. Congrats on finishing this striking pin cushion for PQ12.1, Carla!!

  7. This pincushion is breathtaking -- love the colors, love the design. Willing to share where I can purchase the pattern? Your quilt is lovely as well, but can't take my eyes off your pincushion!

  8. As others have already said, the quilt top is really neat, but the pincushion steals the show. It is awesome! I would love to have the pattern for that! I know the gray and yellow as colors of the year have received a lot of criticism, but I think they go together beautifully. I like them.

  12. Love that pincushion, and the postponed quilt will be awesome. That reminds me I have some Guicy Guice blocks that could be good for the future weeks.
