Falling Rock - Island Batik August Challenge

The August Challenge for the
Island Batik Ambassadors is
Try a Tool with Studio 180
and
today I am excited to share
Falling Rock.

As Island Batik Ambassadors,
we received a new ruler in our second ambassador box
to use in this month's challenge.

I received the Corner Pop III which is used to add
3 to 1 sized triangular pops of color in the corners of any block.

I chose the Island Batik American Frontier collection designed by Kathy Engle

and the Island Batik foundation solid Grey for the background.

I started with simple 4 patch blocks and sashed them to make 8" blocks.
Next, I used the Corner Pop III ruler to add triangles to the top and bottom of the blocks.
The ruler is designed to make 3:1 triangles on the corners on about any sized block.
It comes with very detailed instructions to make it super easy to use.
The "barbed wire" border was made with 2" squares and the Corner Pop III tool.

The blocks are oversized with the Coner Pop III tool and the trimming side
of the ruler makes it super easy to be accurate.

I did the quilting with my Handi Quilter Avante long arm pro-stitcher
using Glide Trilobal Polyester 40 wt grey thread.

This quilt is the perfect throw size at 56" x 64"
but look how small it looks with our Hilltop Cowboy
(metalwork by hubby)

I had a very enthusiastic helper on the photoshoot
which makes this part of the challenge so much better.

She napped under the quilt on the way home.
I think I'll keep Falling Rock here in the Sticks
because we've already broken it in properly.
