Block of the Month #6 - School of Fish meets Baby Playsuit

July will soon be over and the new block for the
Sun, Sand, and Sea Block of the Month will be revealed.

In the meantime, I've been playing with this month's block a little more.

Quilt blocks can be used for more than just quilts.

I used one of  the paper pieced "School of Fish" blocks to make this baby playsuit.

The block was the perfect size  and all I had to do was add fabric around the block before I cut out the pattern piece.

The Sun, Sand, and Sea Block of the Month is
Hosted by Amy over at

This is the original block #6 ( the border of fish) and the original post is here.

The pattern for the playsuit is from the book, "cute clothes for kids" by Rob Merrett.

This book is full of fun patterns for little ones.
I want to make every one.

The pattern called for a pocket on top.
I modified it to use the quilt block for a little fishing buddy.
I just love making little clothes.
This one is 6 month size.

If you follow my blog, you are probably wondering about all the little things that have been showing up on my blog lately.  Well, I am just preparing for a future announcement....

It's not too late to join the fun with the Block of the Month.
We gather on Facebook to share
our blocks and visit with other
participants about this quilt
and there is a link up every month with prizes!

Come back soon...

  3. How cute! I could put some quilt motifs in some top of dresses for my granddaughter. She just turned 4. She has asked me to knit her a multi-colored hat that is mostly pink. She wants me to make us matching dresses. She is a clothes diva. My son moved back home to help both of us. Then four months later her mother went to jail and we've had her ever since - 18 months. She has not seen her mother since that escapade. My son now has full permanent custody of her. She rarely calls. It's very hard for me to take care of her with my invisible disability. She'll be going to Pre-K-4 in about a month - all day 5 days a week. We've also had her 11 year old brother this summer. He goes back to his mom in about two weeks. It's been hectic and I love them. This outfit is adorable. I remember sewing for my children when they were small. I loved every second of it. Great job!
