Play with Me Quilt Along Skill Builder - May

I've been playing along with
Alida (TweloQ) Designs
in the "Play with Me" quilt along.

This month the skill builder is applique and the block is a Peg Solitaire game.

I didn't want to try needle turned applique on all these circles and the choice was ours to make on how we did the applique.
I chose to do raw edge applique and made it even easier by using the template
to print all 33 circles on my fusible with my computer.
Have you tried these printer sheets by Thermoweb?

I know I will be using this easy method of printing stencils from now on.
Where has this been all of my life?

I chose the background fabric because it reminds me of those triangle peg solitaire games I played when I was a kid.  I used a blanket stitch on all 33 circles and the red fabric is Kona solid.

Here are the blocks so far:

I'm having fun making this quilt.  It's going to be a Christmas exchange gift.
I still haven't made any game pieces, but I have 7 more months.  lol

Have a great week!

Splash - There's Always That One Bird - A bonus block for In Our Garden BOM

May has been my month
to share the quilt blocks I designed for the
IN OUR GARDEN BOM.

Today I would like to offer one more block
if you would like to have a silly little bird.

Splash

There's always that one bird...

The original block has pretty birds,

but sometimes a silly one may be just what you need to smile.  Splash is made with Riley Blake Botanique fabrics, Aurifil thread, and Thermoweb Heat n Bond lite.  The bird fabric is from a bundle of Riley Blake solids.

Happy Hexies - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

Last week when I finished Happy Hippos for the H2H Charity Quilt Challenge
I mentioned this quilt.
Happy Hexies is a FINISH!!
On time to donate, too!

These hexie blocks have been laying around for almost a year.
I made 2 of them and the others came from some of the ladies in my Modern Block Party Group.

My month was towards the end of the group's year and I didn't receive all of the blocks for a full quilt, so I made this throw to donate to Happy Chemo.
Happy Chemo is an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.

I had a lot of help with the quilt, including the photography....

The binding is pieced from all the leftover fabrics.

I used this quilt to practice some of the pre-loaded quilt patterns on the Handi Quilter.
I can't believe how fun it is.  I have a lot to learn, but it's starting to be a little easier.

Here is a picture of the back to show a little more of the quilting.

Happy Hexies is a 48" x 60" throw and is labeled and ready to ship.

Hope they like it.

Happy Hippo - H2H Charity Quilt Challenge

is hosting
the
Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge.

This is my 4th year to participate and the first year I am finished before the link up deadline.  (:

Although I really wanted to make 2 quilts this year, I'm feelling great about finishing one.

I used 5" charms in Kona Solids (mainly colors from the Sunset collection)
and stash fabric (giraffe print and animals).
I used Missouri Star Quilt Company's
Wonky Star tutorial as my inspiration for the pattern.

This quilt, Happy Hippo, will be donated to
an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.
I made this one for a child.  It's so sad to think of children fighting cancer and I hope this little quilt can comfort and maybe bring a smile.
The quilt is 45" x 45" and is the first quilt I have quilted with my Handi Quilter.

I have another quilt top on the frame for the H2H challenge and another week to finish it so I may have another donation.  I'm using this challenge as an opportunity to play on the long arm or at least practise some of the patterns.

Happy Weekend!
AND
Don't forget about the
$25.00 Fat Quarter Shop Gift Certificate
to be given away on May 31st,

This week my hubby was interviewed for the local newspaper about his metal art out here in the sticks and he made the front page.

My mailbox brought a huge gift this week.
I won a giveaway from Thermoweb for National Craft month
and
I couldn't wait to use it.

OLISO® PRO™ TG1600 SMART IRON

This iron is as wonderful as I thought it would be.
Thank you, Thermoweb and Oliso!!!!!

My focus is now on Mother's day so I'm making some potholders.
I used the patterns for the BOM and shrunk them down a little to make them 8 1/2".
