Project Quilting Season 7 Recap

This week I finished my final entry for 

Project Quilting - Season 7.

Egg Basket Upset was finished and I posted about it here, but after that

hubby made a holder for my quilt

and

 I wanted to show it off.

Now I have the sweetest Easter decoration.

Egg Basket Upset- Project Quilting Season 7 Challenge 6

Egg Basket Upset

is my entry in the final challenge for Project Quilting this season.

Kim at Persimon Dreams hosts Project Quilting.

She announces a challenge and you have one week (due by noon TODAY- central time) to create something quilty.

This is the final challenge of six for Season 7 of Project Quilting.

The Challenge:

A Goose in the Monkey Wrench

The Rules:

1  For this challenge you must include at least one monkey wrench block and one flying geeseblock.  You may add other blocks if you wish.

2.  Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.

3.  Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least      one of these requirements:

1. Include patchwork.
2. Include appliqué.
3. Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

4.  Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.

5. Link up  by Sunday, March 20th, 2016, at noon, CDT.

This is not the project I started with, although it was in the back of my mind.  I started another quilt, but I want to make it bigger and one week just wouldn't allow me to finish it.

Here's a sneak peak of it....

The paper piecing ended up taking me twice as long as I thought it should, so for many reasons I abandoned that idea and moved on to the next.

I used a little of the previous idea on this quilt.  

The butterfly has a body of part of the swirly flying geese (1" wide!) from above. The wings are 3-D and left free to fly.

Why didn't I use black thread on the applique?  (Lesson learned)

 Then I tackled the flying geese decorating the eggs and decided to completely piece the eggs instead of just appliqueing the flying geese to them.  Oh, the love of sewing tiny curved pieces.....

The monkey wrench fit in nicely with one corner as the basket and some piecing manipulation.

Fabrics:  Scrappy with a lot of hand dyed fabric

Techniques:  piecing, paper piecing, curved piecing,  fusible applique (handle and butterfly body), applique with interfacing technique (eggs), 3-D effect, Free motion quilting on my Janome machine.

I have a little less than 24 hours to finish this for Project Quilting.

AKA - The Bunny House Lady

Somehow I've become known as the Bunny house Lady.

I make one miniature house, which leads to another and another and another.  Well, you get the picture.

I finished up these two today.

Each has it's own family of bunnies and a complete set of furniture.

The pattern I use (modified a little) is McCall's pattern 8346 from 1982.

They make the sweetest gifts for little ones at Easter.

I can't make enough of them. 

 Trouble is, they are super labor intensive and take so much time...

and I want to make a quilt.  wink**

These little guys have to say goodbye to each other.  

Bunny BFFs forever!!

Here are houses from the past.

All of them are being loved by little hands, except the Halloween one.  (I'm trying to keep at least one in case I have little hands around here someday)

It has black cats instead of bunnies.

And my finishes today make 7 so far. 

 I'm sure there will be more in the future (I have lots more orders), but I need to catch up on all the BOMs and quilt alongs.

Down the Dyeing Path - Comes Home

My little quilt came home today after much adventure.

Down the Dyeing Path,
a quilt I made in 2012

was used in an instructional video on
iquilt.com

The course is 
Full Spectrum Dyeing by Cindy Lohbeck.

What a compliment it was when Cindy contacted me last summer and asked if she could use my quilt in her video.

This picture is from the preview of the class and there is my quilt,

The inspiration for the quilt came from a fabric dyeing class at my local quilt shop by Cindy.   The class was Hands on Hand Dyes and I did the Full Spectrum Playgrounds Kit.  I had never dyed fabric before and loved doing it.

Cindy makes dyeing fabric so easy and is a great teacher.

Now you can take her class at home!!
(You know I will)

Cindy took the quilt on a promotional tour for her class 

and

now it is back to hang in my sewing room.

(No more adventure) lol

Little Pink House - Project Quilting Season 7 Challenge 5

The Challenge:  Through the Eyes of a Child

Kim at Persimon Dreams hosts Project Quilting.

She announces a challenge and you have one week (due by noon TODAY- central time) to create something quilty.

This is the fifth challenge of six for Season 7 of Project Quilting.

The Rules:

  1.  Your inspiration for this week's challenge is children's art.  Be sure to include a picture of the art that inspired you.

(Luckily we could use one of the examples from the challenge page)

I used Capri's (Kim's daughter's) art as my inspiration. 

  Isn't it cute? 

My first thought when I read the challenge was a house and stick people, Capri is a little more accomplished than that.

2.  Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes. 

3.  Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:

Include patchwork

Include appliqué.

4.  Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge. 

5. Link up either a blog post or flickr image  by Sunday, March 6th, 2016, at noon, CDT 

While Capri chose a winter scene, I took the Spring route.  Snowmen go to snow as flowers go to bunnies.....  At least in my mind.

I decided to go the nontraditional route for this challenge and make a toy instead of a quilt.

The pattern I used (modified a little) is McCall's pattern 8346 from 1982.

I couldn't wait to put the Tula Pink fabric on the roof of this house. 

 I thought it looked like a tile roof.

The house is sandwiched with batting and plastic canvas.

Shall we knock on the door to see inside?  lol

The bunny isn't dressed, but he has invited us in...

I still have a bed to make and want to add a momma and baby bunny.
