Cabin Coolaid, Fat Quarter Shop

Cabin Coolaid quilt and pillow

I really wanted to try the Fat Quarter Shop's FREE Shortcut Quilts pattern, Layer Cake Lemonade which was released last week. (Speaking of the Fat Quarter Shop, the giveaway winner is announced  below). The top was a finish last week and today I present Cabin Coolaid as a finish with a pillow made from the scraps. I just happened to have two short stacks of Riley Blake, Elk Ridge fabric in my stash and it was just enough to make another manly project for MOvember. This is the last brown project I'm starting for awhile, by the way.

This quilt is perfect for my "man cave" of a house (cabin) where nothing famine fits in.  My hubby loves this rustic style quilt, of course.

There aren't a lot of scraps from the construction of the quilt, but there was enough to make a 16" cushion cover with a little leftover fabric from the Football Stadium quilt.  I quilted the pillow and quilt with leaves and vines with free motion on my domestic with thread I recieved from my friend Jen over at Glinda Quilts.

Thank you, my friend.  I really liked this thread and it was perfect for these projects.

The quilt is 48" x 61" and is perfect for cuddling up in front of the fireplace in a cabin during the winter.

Taking the MO out of November

Today I have a quilt top finish to share.  I really wanted to try the Fat Quarter Shop's  FREE Shortcut Quilts pattern, Layer Cake Lemonade which was released this week.  I just happened to have two short stacks of Riley Blake, Elk Ridge fabric in my stash and it was just enough to make another manly project for MOvember.  It was fast and easy.

Cabin Coolaid

This quit will be perfect to curl up with here at the cabin.  The winter chill is here and I'm going to need something to stay warm.  This quilt, Cabin Coolaid, will make this couch look a little lot better.

Don't forget about the Fat Quarter shop Gift Certificate Giveaway.  Sign up ends November 28th

I'm ready to lose the "MO" in Movember and do something girly.  I love my guys, but I'm ready for bright and happy.

Sneak peak, no, not really--hehe

Time to start on a super girly gift for my pink loving friend, Jen over at Glinda Quilts.  Even though I'm starting, dear friend, it probably means you will be receiving this same time next year...lol

And... tomorrow is the sign up for a new blog hop for January/February and I will be cheering everyone on!  Check out the details over at Sew we Quilt and sign up to make your sewing room projects and show them off.

I even have my own cheerleader, now.  Isn't she a beauty?

I can't wait to hear from everyone when you sign up to hop,

The Quilting Gallery has organized this hop to say thank you for all the wonderful blog readers across the globe.  You will find a list of all the blogs having giveaways over there.

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways

I'm Carla and am so happy to have you here.  Blog hops are a great way to be inspired and meet new blogging friends.  There is so much knowledge in the quilting community and this is where we share and encourage each other. You will find me trying to be a part of as many hops as possible.  In fact, one of my favorite places to hop is over at Sew We Quilt.  Madame Samm organizes 2 hops with different themes a month and everyone from beginner to veteran sewists can show projects and cheer on friends.

Peace and Harmony was created for the "Let's Twist to the 60's with Batiks" blog hop. This pattern is available, FREE, at CRAFTSY.

I am so excited to announce this giveaway from my new sponsor, The Fat Quarter Shop.  This week, they released their latest FREE Shortcut Quilts pattern, Layer Cake Lemonade.   This easy free quilt pattern is a perfect way to use layer cakes and, until November 25th, all layer cakes are 20% off.

The Fat Quarter Shop is giving one of my readers a $20.00 gift certificate.  All you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment telling how you do it.  (GFC, Bloglovin', E-mail, etc,)  If you already follow Creatin' in the Sticks, thank you and leave me a comment.

Be sure I have your e-mail address if you aren't a Google user.  The drawing will be on November 28th, the day we give thanks in the USA.

Next year brings big quilty things here in the sticks and I hope you will join in.

THANK YOU!

Memory Quilts - Help to Support My Addiction

As a quilter, sewist, or any crafter we are often thrown requests to use our skills for others.  I have found the most requested from me is putting together t shirt quilts.  While I am happy to make these memory quilts, it is a struggle at times to work on them.

T Shirt Memory Quilt

There is always a deadline with commissioned work and that keeps me pushing through.  This is for a college graduation in December.  It is for a man, so we chose grey fabric to outline the shirt patches.  Once the t shirts are all backed with interfacing and put together as a quilt top, I am excited.   Let the fun begin... Quilting.

Quilting Around T Shirt Designs

Quilting t shirt quilts with free motion is great practice.  Most of the quilting is outlining the emblems on the shirts.  You don't want to poke a hole in the rubberized (or whatever that stuff is) designs or you may cause them to start peeling away.

I always like to put the recipients name on the quilt somewhere.  It makes the quilt even more personal.  This one is 54" x 72" and will be a nice, manly throw.

All that is left to do is deliver this quilt and receive my commission to...BUY MORE FABRIC!

The fabric in this quilt is Moda Marble in Charcoal.  It came from the Fat Quarter Shop, my preferred way to buy fabric.  Fast and friendly service is just one of the reasons it's my first stop for fabric and notions.

Happy Shopping,

And the winner is...

Drum roll please... We have a winner from the "For the Boys Blog Hop."  If you missed my spot in the hop, here is the post.

Congratulations Bonnie!  An e-mail has been sent.

Bonnie said...
What great quilts. The train is so cute and the football one is now on my list to make for my granddaughter who is a huge football fan. I'm sure her dad would like one also. Thanks for sharing.

Bonnie won this panel and I am going to also throw in the PDF Pattern for the football quilt just because she said she wants to make some.

My Chiefs are 9-1 now, but I'm still a happy camper,

Thankful

Over the weekend DH and I took part in an event we have been a part of for the last 4 years.  Our community comes together once a year to package meals to send to those less fortunate.  25,000 people die a day from hunger.  I find that number staggering.

See those boxes, that was our job.  Who knew cardboard could be so much work?  My hands are rough as sandpaper, but it was so worth it.

My MIL heads up this event and this year we packaged 220,000 meals.  30,000 of those meals will stay in our community.  It was exhausting yet so rewarding.  I'm so thankful for my life.  I can't imagine the hunger occurring in the world and in my own community.  Our local drive is called "Share the Bounty" and there are events happening all over.  If you want to learn more about what you can do, Numana has a lot of information.

I did manage a little sewing over the weekend and am in the quilting phase of this t-shirt quilt.

I've been commissioned to make this quilt for a college graduate.  He graduates next month and I'm happy to say I will have this done. The recipient also served in the Air Force and I have enjoyed working on this in honor of him.  I've been enjoying every one's blog posts about the Veterans in their lives.

It's a great day to be thankful,

Football Fever - Go Chiefs! With the i...

Thank you, everyone for the very kind comments you made on my last post.  Those quilts are really special to me.
Football Stadium Quilt
My Friday finish is the pattern for the Football Stadium Quilt that was made for the "For the Boys Blog Hop" this week.  I worked all day today on writing the pattern properly and have almost finished another football quilt for my son.  I'm not as enthusiastic about the Tennessee Titans, but it's fun to make something for another love of my life.

Chiefs quilt and cushion for football watching

It's been awhile since my Kansas City Chiefs have been on the winning side, but I'll take a 9-0 record.  I'm really good with that since the team only won 2 games last year.

Hopefully, the fine folks at Craftsy won't mind a Chiefs quilt on the site...lol  You won't be finding me making a Denver Broncos quilt, but maybe someone will want to.  The pattern is available HERE.
You could use the pattern for any team if you have licensed fabric.  It could be made as just a football without the logo on the front.  The best part about the pattern is that it's so fast to put together.

I've had requests for the stadium cushion pattern and I will be putting that together as a tutorial soon.

Thank you, everyone for making me all warm and fuzzy inside,
