A Lovely Year of Finishes - February Goal Met

With a second snow storm in 4 days, I've managed to meet my February goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes hosted by Fiber of All Sorts.

Black and White Quilt Top

My goal was to gather these blocks from the UFO stash and finish a quilt top.  DONE!

I left a lot of negative space for lots of fun quilting.  The size of the top is 80" x 80".  I wanted a bed quilt.  This will be a fun one.

This pattern was fun.  I made it up as I went along.  If I hadn't ran out of fabric, it would be even larger.  With the snow and lack of a local quilt shop (by local, I mean closer than 60 miles) I had to use what I had.  I am very happy with it and can't wait to sandwich and quilt.....

Cowboy Way

Snow bound.  What a week we have had here in Kansas.  14 1/2" of snow has kept me at home for a couple of days.  What great weather for catching up on some sewing.

Flannel Throw

The cowboy fabric for this throw has been in my stash for awhile and this was the perfect chance to put it to use.  My inspiration was the need for a blanket in my "cowboy" guest bedroom. 

Made of flannel, the big star was cut from two layers of brown and and the smaller stars are one layer of black.  I used a flannel sheet for the batting and another flannel sheet for the backing.  The star is "fringed" on the edges rag quilt style as well as the edges of the quilt.  The quilting is lassos and stars.

February 2013

The snow looked like water outside my sewing room window.  We are so grateful for moisture and may have to get out tomorrow and sled down that hill in the distance.  It's a great sledding hill with adrenalin rushing galore!

WIPs and the Winner is....

The sewing room has seen me a little lately while I squeeze in sewing time between doing book work for the dreaded April 15th deadline.

I've been working on the T-Shirt quilt I've been commissioned to do for a graduation present and have completed all of the blocks.

I'm trying to finalize choices for fabric on the lattice and corner stones and will be ready to put it all together.

My UFO is still a WIP for the month of February.  I have managed to work on it a little.

grow...A garden quilt

I was inspired by Annie's inspirational way of using color and texture in her painting of nature. She has a wonderful spirit that comes across in her paintings.

Annie uses a free motion style with loads of color and texture. I used my own hand dyed fabric and explored free motion quilting in my little garden quilt. I noticed some of her paintings have words, so I found this as the perfect opportunity to hand embroidery (which I love).

  The center of the flower is hand made piping which I rolled into the circle and then added beads for sparkle and texture.

I'm hoping I inspire my garden to "grow". (My thumb isn't green, but I try)  This project has definitely inspired me to grow in creativity.

My husband made a beautiful holder for the quilt to be in the garden.  He's a wonder with metal.  Visit his Facebook page for Duck Creek Design.

A Lovely Year of Finishes - February

I am continuing with A Lovely Year of Finishes over at Fiber of All Sorts with a UFO for February.

 This one is simply called "Black and White" for now.  This was a gift exchange quilt that's still on the drawing board.  My goal for February is to have these blocks made into a quilt top by the end of the month.  Even though I made my goal last month, I was a little too ambitious.  Having this put together will make me happy.
